Phase 2 of the Eastbourne Town Centre Movement & Access Package
We need to draw your attention to the fact that the Terminus road pedestrianisation plans do not include any cycle infrastructure apart from racks. No access along what could be a major car free link to shops, amenities and seafront. Potential paths for those we need to shift from cars for local journeys to bikes and for the elderly and disabled who are potentially liberated by the electric and recliner bikes.
We urgently need your support at the current consultation for phase 2 of the town centre development pedestrianisation of Terminus road. Closing date 10th December.
Bespoke was at the stakeholder meeting for phase 2 of the Terminus Road town centre development at the beginning of this month. We were hugely disappointed when stage 1 from the station to Bankers Corner had omitted to accommodate bikes, despite buses and taxis having access. Now phase 2 from Bankers corner to Langley road is up for consultation and again, the only plans for safe cycling infrastructure along the whole of Terminus road are provision of bike racks! The alternative route is for cycles to travel with traffic on the dangerous ring road via Ashford and Cavendish road, which will not help the climate emergency by encouraging people out of cars and onto to bikes. Christina Ewbank, Head of The Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce, backed the share with care access promoted by Bespoke at all the meetings, but despite Bespoke being involved since 2016, our input has been ignored. A once in 50 year development opportunity being missed by County planners.
So please get on line or go to the drop in consultation points and ask for cycle access for safe town centre infrastructure along what will eventually be like a Boulevard all the way along Terminus road to The Pier. Barcelona has one and it is shared by bicycles. Positive action that could and should be taken to combat Climate Breakdown, improve health and clean up our air!
