Disability Cycling Taster Day Review

On Wednesday there was a cycling taster day for those with disabilities at Eastbourne Sports Park. Ian Godley from the Royal Mencap Society shares his review of the day.

The event was extremely successful. About 50 people with learning disabilities attended throughout the day, one group coming from as far away as Crowborough. Some people had cycled before whereas others were complete beginners. Not only did everyone enjoy the experience of cycling. Many clearly grew in confidence and improved their cycling abilities too. Wheels for All brought a variety of adapted bikes for the cyclists to use and they, in tandem with Liddy Leedings’s Road Safety and Education team, supported them on the track. The feedback we received from the cyclists, family carers and support staff was overwhelmingly positive which underlined the need for regular sessions to take place at Eastbourne Sports Park which is the ideal venue for a disability cycling centre. I should reiterate that the event was a huge team effort and from here we intend to build on this momentum.

It’s great to see such a positive event take place in Eastbourne, and Bespoke are happy to be able to help where possible in the future.
